One of the most influential artists of the past few years, Ed took a year off last year to explore the world without the pressure of touring and recording. He has just released two new tracks. They’re pretty damn good. He definitely sounds revitalised.
“Shape of You” – I think we are all pretty used to the club banger version of ‘boy meets girl’, these days. In “Shape of You” Ed has gone for the subtle and intelligent way of portraying this topic. He still uses an upbeat tempo but it is made unique with his way of playing the acoustic guitar and his thoughtful lyrics.
“Castle on the Hill” – Quite a different song. Going back towards the country feel that comes across in a lot of his music. Sparse and reflective of hometown living – missing friends, missing simple comforts, missing the routine and easy living. Sheeran has such an amazing vocal range in the high register and it comes off effortlessly. He doesn’t go for anything glamorous vocally – doesn’t warble or yodel – just keeps it crisp and simple.
The album, called “Divide” includes these two tracks and 10 others! Available to the public on March 3 and it’s already been added to all AMS Systems that have online updates!
