It’s a wrap for summer, but its warm embrace keeps on with Take It Down, the new rap hymn from New Zealand’s JessB.
The latest single from the pro-netballer-turned-rapper is an alchemy of sounds reminiscent of mid 90s Hip Hop.
With a fun and steady cache of lyrics, Take It Down is a candid portrait of a rising rapper treading the path to good times.
JessB’s detailed delivery beams with pride and is consistently fluid and matched only by the accompanying Rubi Du,
who nails the reggae inclinations seamlessly. Nodding between this vocal blend and the pulsing counter beat, JessB consolidates the mix and hones her flow with Lauryn Hill confidence.
JessB has certainly made a name for herself in yet another field where women aren’t given the full respect they deserve.
From an aspiring Silver Fern, JessB is now another kind of Kiwi ambassador.
An agent for a prolific promise, not just a voice, but a refreshing and rightful heir to the throne of New Zealand Hip Hop.
We give Take It Down 4 out of 5 pumped up kicks.
