It’s been 6 long years since their last album and the Fleet Foxes are returning with their most experimental sound yet.
“Third of May,” the first single from the upcoming album “Crack Up” (due 16 June, 2017) is an epic 8:37 minutes long and is quintessentially Fleet Foxes. Fans will have missed their familiar vocal harmonies and calming melodies, so it’s a comfort to see that the wait has been well worth it.
The first half is familiar, peaceful chord progression with Robin Pecknold’s voice swimming gently across the surface of the melody, drawing the listener in with his deeply honest lyrics about civilisation, both past and present. The last half is drifting instrumentals which continue to carry the listener along on this lulling journey and although a long song, it’s conclusion comes all too soon.
Their new album “Crack Up” is out on the 16 June with the Fleet Foxes touring late May through to July. Sadly, no New Zealand dates announced, but if you can get across the ditch to their Sydney concerts, the trip will be well worth it.
